Research

Before I started the design work, I searched Pinterest for some styles and layouts I wanted.

These are some book page layouts references. There are some page designs that correspond to each other. I think this design concept is very interesting to me, and I feel that the two pages are related and coherent with each other.

These refereces are the effects I want to achieve, and I want to describe a mood when people are anxious and depressed. I chose red and blue as the main colors in this creation. These two colors, one is hot and the other is cool, have a strong contrast. Red also represents warning and vigilance, and blue represents melancholy and sadness.

I created two different covers at first. On the left is a cracked wall, which symbolizes a crack and a defect in the hearts of anxious and depressed people. In the crack, you can see the collapsed silhouette people, which symbolizes their inner emotions and feelings. The one on the right is like a picture with a zipper unzipped. The inside of the zipper has a red background and a lot of graffiti on it, which indicates that the inner feelings and emotions are revealed.

Sketches

I started my visual design with sketch. At first, it was quite difficult for me, because it was the first time to design so many pages by myself.

These are some of the materials I drew in Procreate, which is based on my current mood and referring to some online works. Mainly in red and blue, so as to be more in line with my theme atmosphere.

REFLECTION

This part is the most interesting assignment in the whole module, compared with writing. At first, I felt that it was really a heavy workload to design about 100 pages. Then, due to my personal reasons, week 9 started to do this homework, so the pressure would be relatively high. After finding the right direction, I felt more at ease, and then there was the process. Personally, I think it was quite smooth. I am also very happy and satisfied to see the preset effect step by step towards myself.
