LECTURE

For FLIP[1] group exercise, we were tasked to find out various types of the infographics and make a presentation as well as presented it as a youtube video.

Video . Type of Infographic presented by Group 5

FLIP [1]  Redesign Infographic

We were instructed to choose one free online infographic tool and re-design one poorly constructed infographic poster through our own experimentation with the selected tool.

The infographic from Google ->

Fig 1. Infographic I refer to

Few reasons for poor structure of this infographic poster
1. The picture layout is crowded and suffocating
2. It is lack of hierarchy since the title is supposed to be the first thing people to see, but it didn’t

3. Did not make good use of the data information in the chart to enhance the visualization of the data.
4. I think putting the title all over the grid doesn't emphasize the key points, but it is counterproductive.
Fig 2. Two Composition

These are my two compositions. On the left is the initial composition. Put each item separately and use colour to distinguish each message. Later, I found that there was lack of hierarchy, since all the information was cluttered, so I designed the second edition. In the second edition, I took numbers out of long words and put them above the words, so that viewer would first see the number and message of the data, then read down and read the contents.
Fig 3. Initial colour scheme & new colour schemes

In the colour matching, the frame of icon is dark green at first, and it blends with the dark blue background, the visibility is low. After listen to Miss Anis's advice, I changed the colour of the frame to a brighter colour, and made dark blue and purple versions. I reckon this infographic is about "causes of microchip shortening", I choose blue because I think of microchip (science and technology), the first colour scheme that comes to my mind is blue. Purple can also represent the nature of this theme, I am not choosing bright colours since it will look like sales promotion or travel strategy.

LECTURE

FEEDBACK

Week 2 : Frame of the icon(dark green) should be changed, else it will blended with the background and the readability will decrease.

REFLECTION

I think this flip exercise is quite interesting. After the lecturer's brief explanation, we have to look for more information, and then complete the presentation of the topic according to the assigned group. In this way, no matter who makes ppt or explains it, we can know more about the topic, and the learning effect will be higher, and even small knowledge outside the classroom may be discovered. Also, this is a team activity that is carried out according to the grouping of our final project. This can make us more familiar with the work style of our teammates before starting to do the final project, and also enable us to get into the sense of teamwork earlier.
