LECTURES

Exercise 1 [Quantify & Visualise Data]

Fig 1. Items I found to do this exercise [beads, lego, leaves]

I have started to try to classify these three kinds of items, and what I have more ideas to place it aesthetically is the leaves. Finally, I choose to use leaves to complete this exercise.

Fig 2. close-up of pie chart

I use leaves to form a pie chart pattern to distinguish their shapes (jagged or rounder corner). Then write the corresponding percentage next to them.

Fig 3. close-up of leaves's sizes comparison

The second difference is their size. I put them all together, so that viewer the difference of their sizes more intuitively. Then, the extended with dotted lines are indicate the sizes(S, M, L, XL) to which the leaves belong.

Fig 4.close-up of table

I think this is the most concise part of the whole infographic. There are three kinds of messages in this table which is sizes, shape of edge and quantity.

Exercise 2 [LATCH]

Information Classification :

I chose Disney Princess as the theme of infographic.
I chose it because it has abundant information to classify. After choosing this topic, I check the information about this topic from internet, and finally organize it into the following information classification table.

After collecting the information, I went to Pinterest to find creative inspiration and ideas. Here are some examples I found.

Fig 9. Close up of the island

This design is mainly presented in the form of treasure hunt map. From the beginning, it is the earlier animation works in Disney Princess series, and so on, and the last castle (where the cross is crossed) is the end of treasure hunt map. I drew representative items or scenes in each story according to the plot of the story. When you saw that item or scene, you will know which animation it was, which represented to the animation of each point in the treasure hunt map.

REFLECTION

These exercises are the introductory courses of information design. That is, the theoretical knowledge we have learned in this semester is applied to design, so that we can learn to draw inferences from others and think about how to apply what we have learned to our daily design, which is different from learning with eyes and ears. This is for us to learn in operation.
The second and third exercises are for us to prepare for the final project, and also to learn some application and operation methods in ae from the operation.
