INTRO

Tell us about yourself

I am a ambivert person. I am also a person who is easy to be happy and sad. I have a lot of self-distrust, but I will try hard and pretend to be confident until really succeed. I think my innermost being is perceptual, but I will  judge and execute things rationally when looking at things and solving them.

Being able to finish a work that I am satisfied with and liked by others is the motivating force for me to strive for progress and innovation. Otherwise, travelling is a good way to broaden my horizons and cognition, which can stimulate a lot of imagination and creativity.

How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork?

I hope everyone can see the unique temperament in my works. Even if someone doesn’t understand me, it won’t prevent me from being cheerful and confident.

Everyone ‘s personality is unique and precious. God gives us the ability to feel is to let us feel love and pain, after that live out a way of our own. To live for myself, life is sweet and beautiful because of the sour contrast.

SUMMARY

What is your motto/ quote? Be yourself, don't care what other people think.

Sketches

After writing down my biography and idea of poster statement, I try to sketch out what in my mind. I want to deign a poster which is dreamy and surreal. After that, I came out with two type of sketches.

Fig 1. Sketch #1

The first sketch is something like me on fire. This idea was to present that most of the time our emotion will be very nervous and pain in that situation as we can't control it and same with the characteristic of fire. We can't touch or approach it. It is uncontrollable and we will easy to get hurt as we are not their enemies.

Fig 2. Sketch #2

I want to try to show my inner world. I hope the whole picture is full of fairy tales. I hope that by surreal means, I can treat my face as a door, and the audience can see my inner world when they open the door.

Create digital poster

Fig 3. Digital poster #1

After digitalise the poster, I think it was better than what I imagined. The impact of it is stronger and me as well as the purple fire are even more dazzling because of the black background.

Fig 4. Digital poster #2

The second digital poster was really beyond my expectation. There is story and metaphor behind the big head, you can see the pink-purple flame burning inside, and the butterfly flying out after the fire bath, which means that no matter how hard it is, even if you are desperate and afraid, you can face each other like a butterfly reborn from the fire bath, still love flying and freedom, and still feel that the outside world is beautiful. I put myself in the middle of the sea, because I think it is a peaceful and powerful place. He can be gentle or powerful. At the back of the picture, there is a hill made of cream, decorated with cherries, just like a dessert. Metaphor: I hope my living environment and thoughts are sweet and pleasant.

Fig 5. Modification of poster

I  make the colour correction for my head. I change the Hue/Saturation of my head part and make it feel like me is in the same picture with other elements, not like cutting and pasting it. I also cut out the neck part with more nice and reasonable shape and length to make it look like my head is really standing on the sea. I also change flip the boat horizontal and move it to left bottom. It seem that the whole poster is more balanced and harmonious.

Animate Poster

Fig 6. Animate butterfly's wings

Make the wings of the butterfly into two shots, one is waving up and the other is waving down. In the same shot, one of the left and right wings must be positive and the other negative, but the size of the numbers (75) should be the same. The second shot needs to be reversed. Wings that were originally positive numbers should be expressed by negative numbers. On the contrary, wings that were originally negative numbers should be expressed by positive numbers, but the size of numbers (80) should be the same.

Fig 7. Command of loopout"pingpong"

I set the command of LoopOut("pingpong") to let butterflies keep repeating flapping their wings.

Fig 8. Parent Pick Whip

I make the small house of the ferris wheel parented with the ferris wheel frame to let them rotate synchronously. I set keyframes at regular intervals to adjust the position. Then, if I don't separate the boxes of Ferris wheel, they will turn upside down when they reach the highest point, which is not in line with common sense.

Fig 9. First attempt of animating the poster

The boat stay the same position from beginning until the end. I think moving it front and back maybe will be more lively.

Reflection
This is a very interesting project, and it is also my first contact with AE and PR. I think it's very funny and novel. There are too many functions and special effects to be discovered. Moreover, the process from draft to digital poster is also great. When I finished digital poster, I also had a sense of satisfaction. In addition, with the poster moving, sound effects and music scores, the whole static thing instantly came to life, which was amazing and satisfying. This is a great attempt and exploration, not only exploring my own inner, but also learning how to use more applications to make my works more complete and vivid.
