The figure below show that the tool I use to finish this exercise. The magazines I use to find out the elements of my physical collage and some tools to finish the collage. For instance scissor, cutting knife, a board and glue.

Fig 1.  Tools I use in this physical collage

Firstly, I take a quick glance to the magazine and cut out the elements which inspired me. I also try to find out the picture which can express what I want to tell. After I have some picture and I try to check out the magazine again to look more detail in the magazine so that I won't miss up any good element.

The elements to be used in my collage :

1. Pre-composition #1

A Shot of Life
In our life, we have to keep trying all kinds of experience. Those roller coaster and cable car are two type of choices to live. Roller coaster is stimulating and fast whereas the cable car is in slow speed as you could have a good view of the scenery passed by. The bar code with a red horizontal line below means that we are not defined by secular criterion and "Find out more" on yourself, you are unlimited possibilities! The circle in orange colour is a sun which means that it can light up the entire world and sunshine is able to make your day~

2. Pre-composition #2

Her Life
The collage is shown the old lady's entire life. She eat the clock seem she want to earn more time in this life. Through this collage, we can see the things around her which is the most important things to her. The lady maybe is a noble and rich in her life as you can see her life was fully filled by properties and no worried. She looks eager to have more time to enjoy it. Life is short, enjoy the moment.

3. Pre-composition #3

Vintage Label
It's to bring all of you back to the vintage century. All the elements are represent to the century. Wonderful woman and the delicate make up are representative the vintage style. It is like taking us back in a time machine.I added some line and eyes to make it more active and vivid.

Project 1B - Digital Collage

1. Pre-composition #1

Inside Fish
I clipped out the letter of typewriter using Magic Wand tool and recolour it using "adjustments-curves" function. I make some deformation on the background through "puppet warp" function in Photoshop. I also use "Polygonal Lasso Tool" clipped out the lightning and the circle behind the beta fishes also used the same tool to cut out.Furthermore, I recolour the circle to make it match the colour of the beta fish. I divided the fish body and head into half and putting in diformated building ,a man and plants.

2. Pre-composition #2

New flashes
The background was recoloured using "Channel Mixer" and using the "Brightness/Contrast" to make it have a contrast between front and back. I change the colour of "texture_liquid.jpeg" into negative colour and erased the end of two beta fishes and recolour some texture on them using "brush tool". The staircase was using the tool "vanishing point" to completed as well as added shadows on the stair plane. If you look closely, you can also see the beam extending from the door shining on people which I used "radial blur" to make it.

3. Pre-composition #3

An Ordinary Day
I used "Lasso Tool" to cut out the shape of the orange background and lower the opacity of the "texture_liquid.jpeg" to make it less abrupt. I gave the enlarged people an enlarged head. I using "vanishing point" to make the texture and material of the building to make it more special from the common building.

Feedback

Week 3
Mr Martin said that my first physical collage is manipulating. It let the audience's eyes go through the back and front of the collage. The second collage idea was interesting which was the old man eating the clock. My physical collages were praised.

Week 4
My first pre-composition was already complicated and interesting. Mr Martin also said he like the bubble head of my third pre-composition. Mr Martin said he would preferred the first pre-composition.

Week 5
For e-portfolio, Mr Martin said my process was detailing and good. Mr Martin also told me to keep doing on this way.

REFLECTION

Experience :
Physical Collage
At the beginning, I found a lot of material and try to put them together randomly but when I done it I feel it was no theme and fall apart. So it was important to conceive the placement of materials and find out ways to have stories or connections between each materials.

Digital Collage
I haven't use Photoshop so indeed before so I'm very hard to start my design because most of my idea can't work in Photoshop. I don't know which tool or function to use. Honestly, it was really frustrated. So I tried to watched tutorial video for beginner and leaned from the simple basic. After that, I tried to find out some tutorials to guide me how to implement my existing design in Photoshop.

Observation :
Collage works need to have a lot of creative thinking and also the knowledge of design principle such as golden ratio, scale & hierarchy and etc which can make my design more interesting and attractive. Photoshop is a very versatile application waiting me to discovered!
