Task 2 : Decisive Moment

Visual research

Choosen Narrative : The Princess and The Frog

I decided to do the decisive moment of the movie "The Princess and The Frog". This movie is an American animated musical fantasy romantic comedy film produced by Walt Disney Animation Studios and released by Walt Disney Pictures. The film is based on the novel The frog Princess by E.D. Baker.

Fig . Clip of the movie "The Princess and The Frog"

I decided to do this kissing scene as my decisive moment poster and gif. I think this is the decisive moment of this movie. Because of this kiss, Tiana became a frog, and started their stories and adventure journey, so as to create mutual liking later.

Process:

Fig . Detail of firefly- Ray

I drew a few more of its wings and overlapped them to make Ray look like it was flapping its wings quickly.

Fig . Editing of light

To make firefly-Ray look more vivid and interesting, I decided to restore the glow of its tail. I finished the luminous effect in Photoshop using brush tool and some effects.

Fig . Editing of lotus

The initial lotus was sketched in Illustrator and pasted into Photoshop for editing stuff. It looks more realistic and vivid after editing.

Animating poster in Photoshop

Fig . Expression of each frame

I animated her eyes and eyebrows to show Tiana's emotions and expression when she was going to kiss the frog prince. I edited it according to the princess's expression in this scene of the movie.

Fig . Keyframe of  firefly-Ray movement

I added two kind of keyframes for firefly-Ray. One is the position keyframe is to make it move up and down. I also added opacity keyframe to make it look like it is flashing. The outcome is shown in short video above.

Fig .  First attempt of animating in Photoshop

I think my first attempt of animating it is lack of impact, so i decided to make the effect of light divergence.

Fig . Divergence of light

The figure above shows the process of creating the divergence light. I also add  keyframe to make it looked more smooth when execution.

Feedback

General feedback : Don't put the title too big and take up the whole poster, leave some space for people to breathe.

Reflection
This task is really interesting as I can choose my favourite important plot of movie, also make it into a poster and gif. In the feedback session every week, I can also know the stories of the decisive moment made by my classmates, just like everyone discussing movies together, which is very interesting and cheerful.
